Completed 2016
The Park House has been designed with the intention to take advantage of the leafy park and northern aspect that occurs to the front of the property.
PDA has orientated the casual living spaces, that is the dining and family areas, to access the northern sunlight with large picture frame windows. Private internal courtyards open up the rooms to the rear and create layers of transparency throughout the home.
The build is made up of a selection of varied natural materials including decorative precast concrete panels, brickwork and natural timbers.
The client is planning for retirement and hence the home sits on one level despite the natural slope to the terrain. A lift has been incorporated for easy access to the basement garage.
This house is full of life and will be enjoyed by many.
Completed 2016
A busy professional couple with three young children came to PDA to design an extension to their period home to suit their changing needs.
The young family wanted an ample backyard for games of footy and multiple spots to sit and entertain.
In turn, PDA has opened up the rear of the house to receive natural northern sunlight and visually connect the rear open plan living spaces to the garden. There are two decks for entertaining and a large back yard for the kids to play in.
This house will evolve with the family as they grow.
Completed 2017
PDA has designed a new home that celebrates the garden views and takes advantage of the established street tree that can be admired from the corridor highlight windows. The design maximises the northern sunlight and with the use of raised ceilings.
Completed
The client came to PDA wanting a contemporary extension to this double storey home in St Kilda. The house is sited in a heritage overlay and on a constrictive site.
The clients are moving from a period home that catered to the needs of their growing family to a period home for the next chapter of their lives. This house realises the dreams of the empty nester.
We have opened up the rear of the house and designed elongated open plan living spaces that are met with a swimming pool and pergola.
The upstairs Master suite now includes a dressing room, a light filled bedroom and a roof terrace.
The material selection is in keeping with the grunge feel of St Kilda.
Completed 2008
This rural property located in Strath Creek has been designed with the specific intention to blend in with its context.
The natural, dusty material palette means that the building is effectively camouflaged within its hilly surrounds.
The floating roof tilts and opens to the sky to offer an inviting and warm sunlit space internally.
Completed
The clients are relatives of director Paul Delany and decided to move to rural Mount Macedon for a sea change - a stark contrast to their previous city lifestyle.
The result was an unfortunate 80s brick dwelling which was uninviting, poorly sited and had little access to natural sunlight.
PDA has focused the design on a localised portion of the house with the aim to transform the feeling of the whole house and stick within a tight budget.
By introducing height and natural sunlight to the core of the house, there will now be a sense of comfort and connection to the surrounding landscape. The home now has presence and will be inviting to all.
Completed 2014
The client came to us to design a sleek and contemporary yet sensitive new interior to their home.
The home now sees a minimalistic theme carried throughout the fresh interior, with black steel-framed windows, a striking monochromatic colour palette and clean lines.
The rear of the house opens itself up to a new deck and pool to accommodate entertaining.
Complete 2015
The client wanted to transform their Edwardian home to open up the rear living spaces to access natural sunlight and improve the connection with the garden .
PDA has provided a variety of flexible spaces to meet the growing family's needs.
A natural material palette is layered throughout the residence. The design is contemporary, clean and complementary to the period character of the home.
Completed 2007
PDA designed an extension for this small home on a constrictive block of land.
The driver behind the concept for the house is the journey from the front door to the informal living spaces to the rear.
The transition from original building to new built form evokes a sense of surprise as the new addition tilts to the sky and opens up the house. This provides ample access to natural sunlight and visual connection to the garden.
Completed 2010
The client wished to extend the house to provide for a young growing family.
PDA has created 6 garden spaces around the property to enhance the connection to nature.
The courtyard gardens provide a natural transition connecting original built fabric to modern living.
Design Development Stage
This project near Torquay is the home of a young, aspiring couple. Its location in undulating hills begs for a home to make the most of the stunning views. The current 3-bedroom home does not take advantage of the views, and with a relatively low verandah height and extensive interior brickwork, it is unnecessarily dark.
PDA’s brief; to lighten and open up the existing design and provide additional living zones and entertaining areas by way of small extension.
PDA’s solution: re-design within existing roof-line, small extension to accommodate reconfiguration of bedrooms and additional living area/rumpus room using clean lines and plenty of glass. In addition, a strong connection to the garden and outdoors, with full height glazed doors and expansive timber decking areas.
This project is currently in the design development stage, and our clients are keen for a quick progression to construction.
The PDA team is very excited about the design concept presented, and is keen to see the progression of works and, ultimately, its completion.
Under Construction
This family home is designed to sit peacefully in a heritage streetscape. It has contemporary detailing to distinguish it from its neighbours.
Towards the rear of the property the house unfolds onto the garden.
